The Isle of Anglesey known as ' Mother of Wales' (Mam Cymru) is a beautiful unspoilt island off the North West Coast of Wales that is divided from the mainland by the Menai Straits and linked by Stephenson's Britannia Bridge and the famous Telford Suspension Bridge. The Island offers immense natural beauty and a great deal of historical interest.
Cemlyn Nature Reserve is just one and a half miles from THE FIRS and is administered by the North Wales Wildfowl Trust and contains an inland lake that is the main breeding ground for the Artic Tern as well as a variety of other species. Another location for lovers of wildlife and the natural environment is South Stack located 3 miles from Holyhead. Here visitors can tour the historic lighthouse that is reached via the descent of 400 steps to a small island and is a wonderful place to watch thousands of breeding seabirds including guillimots, razorbills and puffins.

Lovers of history may like to venture further south to Beaumaris Castle built by Edward 1 after his defeat of the Welsh princes in the 13th century. Beaumaris is one of a series of castles built around this time another being Caernarfon just across the strait on the mainland.
